We were Initially, three malay women from Cape Town who qualified as tour guides and wanted to explore our own roots and cultures. After doing some research on the
Karamats (Friends of God) of the Western Cape,we started our business Cape
Essence Tours.
It was an uphill battle for my two partners who were the sole
breadwinners at that time and they gave me the option to continue with
the business. I moved to Paarl and added the book club and products.
Cape
essence is still growing and by diversifying, is managing to stay afloat. Cape Essence
traditional atchaar, biscuits, bags and scarves are popular amongst my friends.
Memorable
cruises and tours sharing stories and cultures with locals, cultural
dancing , cooking and Craft/Art classes is also a must when we go on
tour.
To share stories,(who we are ,what we eat ,how we live and what we do for
hobbies) will always form a big part in describing what Cape Essence really is. Our book club events, especially meeting local authors is very
popular.
